What do I need to bring to sell scrap at Sikora Metals?

All customers must be at least 18 years of age and are required to have valid state-issued ID. Customers will be required to give a thumbprint and sign a form declaring they are authorized to sell their material. Ferrous material cannot be bought out of cars and must come in a larger vehicle (truck, van or SUV). All vehicles must bear a valid license plate. No walk-ins are accepted.


Is there a minimum amount of scrap I must have to sell to Sikora Metals?

We have the means to service any off-site project and will gladly haul your material for you. Call (313) 366-6311 for pricing information. We have several reliable, trustworthy customers we will refer smaller residential jobs to for hauling services.


How do I get paid?

Customers are paid cash prior to leaving the yard. Due to a new state law, customers with over 25 dollars’ worth of copper or catalytic converters are required to wait for a voucher in the mail before collecting their cash. Commercial or Industrial accounts can set up pay by check or a weekly payment plan if they do not want their drivers handling cash.


Am I allowed to clean my metal at your facility?

We allow customers to clean, disassemble, sort and separate material on-site. We ask our customers to work safely and neatly to keep an orderly environment for everyone. Venting CFC’s in the yard will not be tolerated. Rubber tires are not to be left in the yard.


Can somebody help me unload my truck?

We are always available to help customers safely unload their truck. We have a crane, front end loader and forklifts to assist you with pieces that may be too heavy to unload by hand.


What do I need to do to sell Freon bearing appliances?

Freon bearing appliances must have all the refrigerant reclaimed (not vented) prior to entering our facility. Most heating and cooling companies and appliance stores offer this service.


What is Venting?

Venting is releasing refrigerant or any CFC into the atmosphere. This practice is illegal as it is very harmful to the environment. CFCs are one of the leading causes of the destruction of the ozone. CFCs should be reclaimed by certified technicians.


What do I need to do to sell a sealed tank?

Sealed tanks, such as oxygen tanks, gas tanks, and fire extinguishers, must be cut in half. The entire interior must be visible before it can be sold.

Do you buy vehicles?

Yes, we are licensed to buy vehicles. We require you to bring the title and remove the gas tank in order to sell a whole vehicle at our yard

Where can I obtain a scrap license?

You can apply for a scrap license at the Detroit City County Building. You will need to pass a truck inspection among other requirements.


Do you offer certified weight tickets for vehicles and trailers?

We offer certified weight tickets for a $10 charge. You will need one to register a trailer with the Secretary of State.


Who should I report stolen items to if I think they will end up in a scrap yard?

File a police report. We receive regular theft alerts from local police departments when metallic objects are stolen.
